Understanding strengths and support needs.

Every child and family is different. These are topics to discuss with the team when exploring this service; they are not a promise of a particular treatment or result.

What the conversation may cover

  • Your observations and questions about development.
  • An individualized discussion of strengths and areas needing support.
  • An explanation of findings and possible next steps.

How parents participate

Share your priorities, explain what everyday life looks like and ask how proposed goals fit your family. Discuss opportunities to participate and how recommendations can be used between appointments.

Before you arrange support

  • Ask about the assessment format, duration and qualifications of the evaluator.
  • Ask which reports to bring and how results will be explained.

Confirm service availability, age eligibility, practitioner qualifications, appointment setting, fees or funding and any referral requirements for your location.

What progress means

Discuss meaningful goals with the professional supporting your child. Ask how progress will be reviewed and when the plan may need to change.

A next step, together

Your child’s next step
could start with one conversation.

If you have questions about your child’s development, we’re here to listen.
